CHARLES BARR – Principal

Charles is a South Florida based entrepreneur and investor. He’s currently running a startup, Humans & Robots Inc., which provides remote digital assistants to supercharge “busywork”, buying a small business through Barr Dynamics, and occasionally helping with family business matters.

Originally from Chicago, Charles’ family began splitting their time between Chicago and Miami when he was eight years old, with Charles attending school in Miami and spending summers in Chicago. After graduating from high school, Charles moved to Massachusetts for college, staying in the Boston area until late 2018 when he decided he wanted to stay in South Florida to be closer to his parents, Irv and Irene. The Florida weather, after nearly a decade in New England, wasn’t so bad either!

Charles has an experience in a variety of industries with the common thread of analytical qualitative work combined with quantitative work. In college, Charles interned at Cole Taylor Bank (now part of Fifth Third Bank) building financial models for mortgage-backed securities and SRA International (now part of General Dynamics) writing proposals for government IT and defense contracts. Between college and business school, he wrote SQL queries as pricing and planning analyst at Wayfair prior to its IPO and  He’s worked in pharmaceuticals/biotech at a clinical research organization (CRO) and at a medical device startup.

Charles holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and an SB from MIT in economics and in political science. He’s also an active alumnus of Ransom Everglades School.

In his spare time, Charles regularly enjoys recreational powerlifting, running, reading books, listening to audiobooks, boating, and playing with other people’s dogs. Less regularly than he’d like, he also enjoys attending airshows, watching spacecraft launches, traveling abroad, SCUBA diving, and, ever since he realized a 1 Michelin Star restaurant isn’t like a 1 star Yelp review, going to great restaurants.
